The AZSITE manager will be on parental leave 9/16 through 9/27. From 9/30 through 11/22 he will be working half-time while on parental leave. AZSITE GIS Technician Ellie Renteria should be your primary point of contact for questions related to AZSITE data and applications between 9/16 and 9/27. She will continue to focus on data uploads and fixes, and will also process data clip requests.

Any problems related to application functionality will be forwarded to our server management/development team at ASU Geospatial Research and Solutions

Due to the University of Arizona financial action plan, we have not been permitted to obtain additional staffing during my leave. As a result, AZSITE administrative functions will be delayed, particularly from 9/16-9/27.

Last night, the following layers were made available in the AZSITE Web Map Application and the Mercator standalone GIS services:

  • Consolidated ASM Sites: This layer serves to keep a record of pre-consolidation ASM site boundaries to assist in research and review where consolidated ASM sites are involved. Feature service endpoint
  • Inactive ASM Sites: This layer serves to keep a record of boundaries and minimal attributes for ASM sites and segments of ASM sites that do not meet the ASM site definition. These may include in-use segments of historic linear sites (e.g., roads, pipelines, and railways), in-use historic structures, historic isolated occurrences (e.g., waste piles with no features), or site boundaries identified only from archival research. The Active Segments field indicates if an entry in this layer has segments that are abandoned and thus meet the ASM site definition. Segments may move out of this layer as they are abandoned. Feature service endpoint
  • Lower Salt River Valley Hohokam Canals: Lower Salt River Valley Hohokam canals polylines, organized into layers by period, as described in "Hohokam Irrigation Longevity and Agricultural Success in the Lower Salt River Valley, Arizona" by Dr. Christopher R. Caseldine. These data were provided to AZSITE by Dr. Caseldine. Attributes include canal system name and time period. Features are separated into layers by time period. Feature service endpoints (0-3) are available here. These data were based largely on historic aerial photographs from 1930-1959, coupled with the maps of Howard and information from CRM reports. Lines that appear dashed are derived from the 1992 Howard map and indicate projected canal trajectories where cross-cut profiles were not available. These data are intended to be used to identify the potential for subsurface canals features in a project area. This layer can be used in conjunction with the Howard Canals layer to identify potential canals.
  • Details on these layers are provided in the AZSITE Data tab of our User Guide. Metadata is also available at the ArcGIS server rest endpoints.

Sadly, Carrie Schmidt will be leaving the role of AZSITE GIS Technician this week. Carrie has been integral to AZSITE's operation since 2020 and will be sorely missed. Some of her notable accomplishments include her work processing the backlog (now nearly complete) and developing the new public mapping app. Thank you, Carrie!

January 5, 2024

In the last month we have uploaded 10 backlog ASM projects, 22 basic backlog ASM site updates, and 38 data fixes (including ASM, MNA, and ASU site boundary corrections, and document link fixes).

AZSITE's new public mapper is now live. Check it out!

Reminder that you can now request data fixes for individual AZSITE entries from map pop-ups and attribute search detail pages.

Remember to submit your application for 2024 AZSITE access. Visit our forms page for more info.

December 5, 2023

Over the past 2 months we have uploaded 9 projects (8 ASM backlog, 2 USFWS), 63 sites (36 ASM backlog, 26 ASU, 1 USFWS), 23 ASM site updates (22 basic backlog and 1 full), 39 data fixes (including ASM and MNA site boundary corrections, quad boundary additions/corrections, missing documents), 31 site cards (7 ASM, 24 ASU), 1 ASM PRF, and 24 ASM reports.

The land ownership dataset provided on the Mercator server has also been updated to reflect the latest data from the BLM. The new web mapping application utilizes the BLM dataset directly; the legacy mapping application utilizes the Mercator feature service (just updated) for queries, but symbolizes the data using a tile cache that is not being updated. This may result in a conflict between what you see on the screen and what you see when selecting or identifying features.

We have created a Data Fix Request web form. This is currently accessible from the pop-ups for Sites, Projects, and Newly Recorded ASM Sites in the new web mapping application. Corrections to additional types of AZSITE data can also be requested using this form. We will be integrating it into the attribute search pages soon.

Remember to submit your application for 2024 AZSITE access. Visit our forms page for more info.
